Amidst the crazy pace of our modern-day lifestyle, many of us are returning to the traditions of old to help us make sense of the world again.
In William Bridges’ book ‘Transitions’, he borrows heavily from the world of myth and ritual, reminding us of the timeless significance of tribal rites of passage and the lessons behind the Greek myths of Oedipus and Odysseus.
In many ways, this book feels like a meta-self-help book, an overarching umbrella under which many splinters of personal development can comfortably reside. William presents and elaborates on a 3-fold process that governs any significant life or career change, and shows us the many nuances that we need to pay attention to as our life unfolds in its twists and turns.
This book has been sitting on my shelf for more than a year, and I’m glad that this podcast finally gave me a reason to read it! It’s one of those books that speaks to the reader at varying levels…you’ll come way with different realizations depending on your own life stage and degree of personal evolution.
In this episode of the Executive Book Club Podcast, I focus on the chapter of transitions in work life, and share why our current approach to career change is so screwed up, how William’s principles apply to our career transitions, and how to plan broader organizational changes with more awareness and grace.
